  • Painter's Pond Park

Painter’s Pond is the site where once existed the community known as Red City.

An African American community called Red City once stood at Painter’s Pond Park -- which had an extension of the local railroad running a spur to one of the hotels in the area. The residents of this community served as the workers in many of the local industries. Their lives and regular routines of the time are depicted in the lengthy mural in Painter’s Pond Park. More on the history of the African Americans associated with this community is chronicled at the African American Museum of the Arts, africanmuseumdeland.org.
