The dance floor hosted many social events between 1945 and 1962. During the time of segregation few places welcomed African-Americans, so Virginia Key Beach became a favorite social destination. Performers like Sam Moore and notable celebrities like Muhammad Ali and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. came to the beach to host events and parties and find relaxation. It has been said that the Dance Floor also had a Jukebox attached. The floor itself is completely original. It is still used today for almost every imaginable type of social event.
