  • Deland Naval Air Station Mural

Profound changes took place in DeLand during the World War II years.

On the northwest corner of New York Avenue and Woodland Boulevard is the “Museum of Art – DeLand Downtown.” Find out more about this museum and its sister site, “Museum of Art – DeLand near Stetson University” at moartdeland.org.

On the south side of this building facing New York Avenue is a mural that colorfully displays some of the activity that took place in this area during World War II. The presence of the Navy in DeLand during the War Years brought life back into the depressed economy. Naval pilots trained here fought in the Pacific Theater. A museum at the airport relates that history. Find out more at delandnavalairmuseum.org

More information on the local sights and attractions can also be found across the street from the mural at the West Volusia Tourism Bureau and visitwestvolusia.com.
