DeFuniak Springs, founded in 1882 as a L&N Railroad stop, is steeped in history. A walk around Lake DeFuniak is a walk back into Victorian times, when labor and materials were plentiful and elaborate architectural details were incorporated in the homes being built. Turrets, double verandas, classic fluted columns, gingerbread trim, and window dormers all resulted in interesting architecture. Cultural, educational, and religious activities came early when the town was chosen as a winter home for the New York Chautauqua.
Walk DeFuniak Springs audio tour, with twelve stops, will guide you around Lake DeFuniak, through our Chautauqua Campus and finish in Historic Downtown DeFuniak Springs. This journey in time offers a glimpse into the people, places and events that shaped the look and feel of our culture as a true Southern town. We invite you to enjoy Walk DeFuniak Springs and all our town has to offer.
